Adam R. Duryee, 31

Funeral service for Adam R. Duryee, 31, of Leland was held Saturday, Jan. 4, at the Forest City United Methodist Church. He died December 30, 2002, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. The Rev. Gary Marzolf officiated.

Survivors include his parents, Leonard and Betty Duryee of Leland; his sister, Susan Wheeler and her husband, Jim, and their children, Jenna and Mariah, all of Des Moines; his brother, Kevin Duryee and his wife, RoseAnn, and their children, Jenny and Cory, all of Forest City; his grandmother, Pearl Duryee of Riceville; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jeffrey C. Sommer, 33

Funeral service for Jeffrey C. Sommer, 33, of Forest City was held Monday, Jan. 6, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. He died December 31, 2002, as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident near Forest City. The Rev. Lee Laaveg officiated. Burial was in Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City, with Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his mother, Ora Mae Sommer, of Forest City; his sister, June Fretheim and her husband, Wes, and their sons, Justin and Zack, all of Decorah; three uncles, Harold Sommer and wife, Mary, of Arcadia, Fla., Alvin Sommer of Cresco, and Marvin Sommer of Granger; two aunts, Charlene Knutson of Cresco and Norrine McKinstry of Rapids City, S.D.; along with several cousins.

New Year's accident claims one

A Forest City man was killed in a single-car accident Tuesday night on the River Road south of town.

Jeffery Sommer, 33, Forest City was driving northbound in a 2002 Nissan pickup on Hancock County Road R-70, and failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The vehicle entered the north ditch and rolled, killing Sommer.

Rebecca Bartleson and Brett West, both of Forest City, were passengers in Sommer's vehicle. Bartleson was treated at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa then airlifted to to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis where she was first listed in critical condition but later upgraded to fair condition.

West was also taken to Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa, where he was listed in fair condition.

The accident is under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Assisting on the scene were the Forest City Fire Department, Forest City Ambulance, Forest City Police Department, the Hancock County Sheriff's Department and the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department.

 Carl C. Larsen, 83

Funeral service for Carl C. Larsen, 83, of Fertile was held Saturday, Jan. 4, at Fertile Lutheran Church in Fertile. He died January 1, 2003, at the Lake Mills Care Center. The Reverends Marlin Snyder and Merlin Norris officiated. Burial was in North Prairie Cemetery in rural Scarville, with Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Alice; a daughter, Nancy and son-in-law Dennis Faber of Fertile; three grandsons, Tim Faber and his wife, Brooke, of Ft. Meyers, Fla., Tom Faber of Rochester, Minn., and Edward Faber of Fertile; two sisters, Josephine Larsen and Lorraine Diederichs of Minneapolis; three brothers, John (Betty) Larsen of Fargo, N.D.; Harold Larsen of Moorhead, Minn., and Kenneth (Lois) Larsen of Sarasota, Fla.; and brother-in-law Bob Chesley of Brunswick, Maine.

Walter E. Campney, 92

Funeral service for Walter E. Campney, 92, of Clear Lake was held Monday, Jan. 6, at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. He died January 2, 2003, at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City. The Reverends Jan Burnett and Rebecca Campney Carver officiated. Burial was in East Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Algona, with Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his son, Richard Campney and his wife, Elaine; two grandchildren, Benjamin Campney and Rev. Rebecca Campney Carver and her husband, Phil; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Campney; great-grandchild Joel Carver; two step-daughters, Arlene Bruns and JoAnn Stevens and their families; three step-grandchildren, Lori Damman and her husband, Steve, Kevin Cole and his wife, Cherie, and Tim Cole; six step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-granchildren; two sisters, Beulah Davis of Algona and Clarice Buscher and her husband, John, of Mesa, Ariz.; and a brother, Harold Campney, of Spirit Lake.

Rose Sarah Thompson, 83

Funeral service for Rose Sarah Thompson, 83, of Missouri Valley was held Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley. She died Dec. 29, 2002, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Neb. The Rev. Ron Wymer officiated.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Shirley Thompson of Forest City; daughter Sharon Thompson, sister Irene Bonham, and grandson Brian Thompson, all of Missouri Valley; along with nieces and nephews and friends.

Oscar Harang, 78

Funeral service for Oscar H. Harang, 78, of Lake Mills, formerly of Ackley, was held Friday, Jan. 3, at Salem Lutheran Church Chapel. He died Dec. 30, 2002, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. The Rev. Kevin Mackey officiated. Burial was in Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills.

Survivors include three sisters, Adeline Gunleson of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Gena O'Grady of Des Moines, and Arlene Rauen of McMinville, Ore.; three brothers, Curtus Harang of Waukegon, Ill., Kermit Harang and his wife, Wilma, and Richard Harang and his wife, Joan, all of Lake Mills; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Elizabeth A. Robinson, 60

Funeral service for Elizabeth A. Robinson, 60, of Marshall, Mo., formerly of Forest City, was held Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the First Baptist Church in Forest City. She died unexpectedly of a heart attack January 1, 2003, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall. The Rev. George Kalb officiated.

Survivors include her husband, Ron, of Marshall; a daughter, Charlene and her husband, Jim Stienstra of Sioux Falls, S.D., and their two children, Christopher and Laura; a sister, Jane Hagen of Fargo, N.D.; two nieces, Amy and Loren; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ty Gary Carlson, 65

Memorial service for Ty Gary Carlson, 65, was held Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City. He died January 4, 2003, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. The Rev. Gary Marzolf of the United Methodist Church in Forest City officiated. Burial was in Forest Home Cemetery in Leland.

He is survived by four aunts, two uncles and many cousins and friends.

Dagny Nelsine Aadsen, 81

Funeral service for Dagny Nelsine Aadsen, 81, of Kiester, Minn., will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Scarville Evangelical Lutheran Church, Scarville. She died January 5, 2003, at the Lake Mills Care Center. Pastor Thomas Rank will officiate. Burial will be in Scarville Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills, and again one hour before the services at the church. 


Virgil Thorson, 93

Funeral service for Virgil Thorson, 93, of Forest City will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. He died January 5, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City. The Rev. Lee Laaveg will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Forest City, with Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. 


Alyce Nelson, 99

Alyce C. Nelson, 99, of Lake Mills died Monday evening, Jan. 6, 2003, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Forest City.

Funeral service for Ardith G. Halvorsen, 77, of Forest City will be 1:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 15) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. She died January 9, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City. The Rev. Lee Laaveg will officiate. Viola 'Bobbie' Dahl, 95

Funeral service for Viola "Bobbie" Dahl, 95, of Emmons, Minn., was held Saturday, Jan. 11, at Emmons Lutheran Church. She died Jan. 7, 2003, at St. John's Lutheran Home where she had been a resident since January 2. The Rev. Julie Fiske officiated. Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery at Emmons.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Dahl and his wife, Vonnie, of Emmons, and Dennis Dahl and his wife, Kathy, of White Bear Lake, Minn.; nine grandchildren, David Dahl and his wife, Kerri, Michael Dahl and his wife, Marge, Greg Dahl and his wife, Dawnn, Sharilyn Bothwell and her husband, Ron, John Dahl and his wife, Tanya, Stephanie Stefanovich, Linda Dahl, Jolyn Techer and her husband, Ty, and James Dahl; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Joanne Dahl; one sister, Dena Peterson; one sister-in-law, Edna Halvorson; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Virgil E. Thorson, 93

Gene Courtney Moen, 74

Funeral service for Gene Courtney Moen, 74, was held Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at Orcutt Baptist Church in Newport News, Va. He died December 22, 2002, after a long illness. The Rev. Kenneth Trinkle officiated, assisted by the Rev. David Hughes.

Survivors include four daughters and their husbands, Debra and Robert Tomchek of Woodbridge, Va., Wanda and Daniel Miante of Gaithersburg, Md., Nola and Scott Kjelgaard of Lexington, S.C., and Darla and Laurence Lentz of Orlando, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Tomchek and John Tomchek, Thomas Miante and Matthew Miante, Heather Kjelgaard and Stephanie Kjelgaard, Laurence Lentz II and Garrett Lentz; a great-granddaughter, Abigail Davis; brothers Kenton Moen and his wife, Marge, and Jay Moen of Minneapolis, Minn.; a sister, Carol Moen Chandler and her husband, Don, of Hope, Ind.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Raymond Lewis Rapp, 92

Funeral service for Raymond Lewis Rapp, 92, of Forest City was held Monday, Jan. 6, at the Saratoga Presbyterian Church in Saratoga. He died January 3, 2003, at Muse Norris Hospice in Mason City. The Rev. Tim Sir officiated.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Dorothy, of Forest City; three sons, Paul, Tim and his fiancˇe, Lynn Sonnerman, and Ted and his wife, Sarah; two daughters, Janine and Polly and her husband, Frank Miller; a sister, Mildred Hernon of Forest City; two half-sisters, Shirley Netlund and Alice Rayhons, both of Garner; a half-brother, John Rapp of Caney, Kan.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond; their five children and their spouses, Duane and Michele Aadsen of Bath, Pa., Marilyn and Harold Mahowald of Faribault, Minn., Ronald and Lori Aadsen of Houston, Texas, Neil and Tammy Aadsen of Kiester, Minn., and Linda and Dave Murray of North Mankato, Minn.; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Private graveside service for Tristen Joseph and Casey Dean Fiedler, infant twins of Ron and Nicole Fiedler of Thompson, was held at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City. They died January 6, 2003, at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minn. Father Jerry Blake officiated.

Survivors include their mom and dad, Nicole and Ron Fiedler of Thompson; maternal grandparents Ed and Sue Reineke of Forest City; paternal grandparents Merle Fiedler of Thornton and LaVonne Weaver of Lake Mills; great-grandmother Loretta Reineke of Forest City; and aunts and uncles.

Funeral service for Marie J. Bowman, 82, of Forest City was held Monday, Jan. 13, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. She died January 9, 2003, at Muse Norris Hospice in Mason City. The Rev. Alyce Nelson, 99

Funeral service for Alyce Nelson, 99, of Lake Mills was held Thursday, Jan. 9, at Sion Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills. She died Jan. 6, 2003, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, following a brief illness with pneumonia and a fractured hip earlier in the day. The Rev. Tom Hage officiated. Burial was in Bristol Cemetery, rural Joice.

Survivors include son VeRone and wife Bonnie Nelson of El Dorado Springs, Mo.; daughter-in-law Fern Nelson and granddaughter Doreen and husband Jim Carter, all of Woodbury, Minn.; granddaughter Deb and husband Jim Scholten of Sioux City; great-grandchildren Jessica and husband Ryan McIntosh, J.D. Scholten, and Caroline Carter; sister Ruth Peterson of Northwood; and sisters-in-law Betty Halvorson Colby and Mavis Halvorson Olson.

Funeral service for Elizabeth J. Haugen, 98, of Woden will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 17, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Woden. She died January 11, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City. The Rev. Arlen Lloyd will officiate.

Survivors include five sons and three daughters, Harold Bud Haugen of Woden, Gerdis Haugen of Woden, Russell Haugen and wife Colleen of Thompson, Alice Walkusch and husband Gunter of Loveland, Colo., John Haugen and wife Debra of Klemme, Betty Anderson and husband Norris of Thompson, Donald Haugen and wife Liv of Bergen, Norway, and Ole Haugen of Los Angeles, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, Julie Hootman and husband Jeff, Colleen Walkusch, John Walkusch and wife Denise, Deanna Haugen, Diana Myers and husband Wayne, James Haugen and fiancˇ, Tuesday Bennett, Nancy Moklestad and husband Dave, Jason Haugen and wife Laura, Elizabeth Ann Haugen and Cathrine Haugen; three step-grandchildren, Adam Roberts and wife Pamela, Brent Roberts and wife Jennifer and Craig Roberts and wife Jessica.

She was also a great grandmother to nine great grandchildren: Ryan Keck, Sean and Logan Mayfield, Jonathan Burress and Samantha Haugen, Megan Moklestad, Alexis and Nicholas Myers and Alexander Haugen; three step-great-grandchildren, Cody and Kourtney Roberts and Clayton Roberts; a sister, Marie Gjertson of Thompson; and a sister-in-law, Helen Gjertson of Forest City.

Bethany Bell Dirksen

Funeral service for Bethany Belle Dirksen, infant daughter of Arlen and Ruth Ann Dirksen of Woden, was held Thursday, Jan. 9, at Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City. The Rev. Doug Farrell officiated.

Music was provided by Sheryl Johnson, organist; Becky Guess and Debbie Pitcher with a recorded duet; and soloist Lori Farrell.

Honorary bearers were her sisters and brothers, Alison, Zachary, Natalie and Jeremy Dirksen. Burial was in Bingham Township Cemetery, Woden, with Winter Funeral Home in Thompson in charge of arrangements.

Bethany Belle Dirksen was born at 8:30 p.m. January 5, 2003, and died at 8:31 p.m.

Survivors include her parents, Arlin and Ruth Ann Dirksen of Woden; her siblings, Alison, Zachary, Natalie and Jeremy; maternal grandparents, Edgar and Vada Belle of Raytown, Mo.; and several aunts and uncles. 


Allen W. Holstad, 58

Funeral service for Allen W. Holstad, 58, of Lake Mills was held Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. He died January 11, 2003, at his home. The Rev. Kevin Mackey officiated. Burial was in Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills.

Survivors include one son, Allen W. Holstad II and his wife, Lauri, of Windsor, Colo.; one daughter, Amy Jo and her husband, Eric Pagel of Greeley, Colo.; his mother, Marian Holstad of Lake Mills; one sister, Sharon and her husband, Jerome Jensen of Albert Lea, Minn., and their children, Thomas Jensen and his wife, Julie, and their children, Rachel and Sam, James Jensen and Robert Jensen, all of Clarks Grove, Minn.; aunts and uncles, Carmen Hanson, Alton Johnson, Beverly Dregne, Dale and Shirley Holstad, Vi and Verne Nelson, and Ed and Betty Meehan; and many cousins.

Funeral service for Alice E. Peterson, 83, of Scarville will be 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 22) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville. She died January 20, 2003, at the Lake Mills Care Center. The Rev. Randy Baldwin will officiate. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, with Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her sons, Homer Peterson and his wife, Penny, of Scarville and Harlan Peterson and his wife, Linda, of Emmons, Minn.; her daughter, Harriet Willand and her husband, Warren, of Northwood; one sister, Charlotte Wolfe and her husband, Dale, of Kiester, Minn.; one brother, Irving Christian of Grandin, N.D.; nine grandchildren, Amber (Rick) Anderson, Korin Peterson, Wesley (Linda) Willand, Sara (Steve) Hulshizer, Dan (Jennifer) Willand, Rodney Thompson, Lance (Carol) Thompson, Pam (Russ) Heinzerling, Howard (Carrie) Peterson; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

M. Robert McCarey, 61

Funeral service for M. Robert McCarey, 61, of Clear Lake will be held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 22) at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Clear Lake. He died January 17, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Msgr. Robert Hogan will officiate. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund is being established in his name. Donations may be made to the Robert McCarey Scholarship Fund in care of Clear Lake Bank and Trust, 322 Main Ave., Clear Lake, Iowa 50428; or a memorial contribution may be made to the charity of one's choice.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Clear Lake; two sons, Robert James (R.J.) McCarey and his wife, Julie, of Newton, and Brian McCarey and his wife, Kathy, of Carroll; his mother, Bertha McCarey Krawiec, of Middletown, N.Y.; three brothers, John McCarey and his wife, Winifred, of Middletown, N.Y., Leo McCarey and his wife, Sharon, of Greenville, N.Y., and James McCarey and his companion, Brenda Cosner, of Middletown, N.Y.; a sister, Audrey Murray and her husband, Harold R., of Middletown, NY; a sister-in-law Dorothy McCarey, of Middletown, NY; six grandchildren, Katelyn Elizabeth, Harrison Robert, Andrew Patrick, Erin Marie, Austin Patrick, and Meghan Elizabeth, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Elmer L. Smith, 82, of Woden was held Monday, Jan. 20, at the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center. He died January 16, 2003, at the Titonka Care Center. The Rev. Lois Abels officiated.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl, of Woden; an aunt, Ruby Holder of Rochester, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

Kenneth Stickfort, 58

Funeral service for Kenneth Stickfort, 58, of Emmons, Minn., was held Monday, Jan. 20, at Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills. He died January 16, 2003, at his home. The Rev. Julie Fiske officiated. Burial was in Lime Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Emmons.

Survivors include two sisters, Esther and her husband, William Charlson of Warsaw, Mo., and Marion and her husband, Gerald Martinson of Emmons; one brother, Leonard; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Norman S. Rye, 84

Funeral service for Norman S. Rye, 84, of Fertile was held Monday, Jan. 27, at Fertile Lutheran Church. He died January 24, 2003, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. The Rev. Marlin Snyder officiated. Burial was in Brush Point Cemetery, rural Fertile, with Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maxine Rye of Fertile, a daughter, Julie Abendschein and husband Robert of Hampton, son James and wife Susan of Des Moines, son David and wife Valerie of Golden, Colo. Also, four grandchildren: Lisa Wicks and husband LeRoy of Clarion, David Abendschein of Ames and Matthew Abendschein of Hampton, and Katie Rye of Golden, Colo., and two great-granddaughters, Ashley and Margaret Wicks, many nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Duane Ronald Langerud, 72

Funeral service for Duane Ronald Langerud, 72, of Lake Mills and Fountain Lakes, Estero, Fla., was held Friday, Jan. 24, at Walter Shikanys Bonita Funeral Home in Bonita Springs, Fla. He died January 22, 2003, of a heart ailment at Lee Memorial Health Park in Ft. Myers, Fla. The Rev. John Buuck, pastor of Hope Lutheran Church, officiated.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Myrna Langerud of Lake Mills, and Estero, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law Alan and Mary Langerud of Plymouth, Minn.; two daughters and their husbands, Ann and Jay Benzshawel of West Des Moines and Amber and Jeff Hollar, also of West Des Moines; three brothers, Calmer (Muriel) Langerud of Clear Lake and Mesa, Ariz., Ernest (Sue) Langerud of Lake Mills, and David Langerud of Minneapolis, Minn; sister Sally (Jim) Bevan of Ottumwa and Ft. Myers, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Daniel Benzshawel, Addison Benzshawel, Kristian Langerud, Kevin Langerud and Ethan Hollar.

Opal G. Olsen, 90

Memorial service for Opal G. Olsen, 90, formerly of Thompson, was held Monday, Jan. 27, at the Thompson United Methodist Church. She died January 24, 2003, at the Lake Mills Care Center. The Rev. Wendy Trone officiated. Burial will be in the spring in Linden Lutheran Cemetery, rural Thompson. Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City was in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her children: Vernon Olsen and wife Karen of Flower Mound, Texas, Gary Olsen and wife Kay of Thompson, Merle Olsen and wife Ethel of Hutchinson, Minn., Sheryl Olsen of Lake Mills and Terry Olsen and wife Kathy of Forest City. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Zimry Jean Loeschen, infant

Zimry Jean Loeschen, eight days old, died January 22, 2003, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Zimry, infant daughter of Duane and Deanna (Palmer) Loeschen, was born five weeks premature, weighing a healthy six pounds, 14.8 ounces, on January 14, 2003, in Mason City.

Funeral service for Zimry was held Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt. The Rev. Peter Schmidlkofer officiated. Music was provided by Jana Loeschen and Nancy Loeschen, accompanied by Carol Schmidlkofer. Burial was Monday, Jan. 27, in Elmwood Cemetery in Mason City. Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt was in charge of arrangements.

Zimry is survived by her parents, Duane and Deanna Loeschen of Woden; sister, Brittany of Algona; maternal grandmother Twila Luker and her husband Norm of Mason City; maternal grandfather Nelson Palmer and his wife Toni of Vancouver, Wash.; paternal grandmother Ardith Loeschen of Forest City; maternal great-grandmother Jean Fry of Mason City; maternal great-grandfather Arnold Luker of Mason City; paternal great-grandmother Elida Brandt of Titonka; and numerous aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by grandfather Neal Loeschen; great-grandparents David and Mildred Palmer; great-grandfather Fred Mills; great-grandmother Ethel Luker; great-grandfather Darwin Fry; and great-grandfather Harley Brandt.


Edmund Draheim Sr., 90

Funeral service for Edmund Draheim Sr., 90, of Owatonna, Minn., was held Monday, Jan. 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. He died January 23, 2003, at Cedarview Nursing Home in Owatonna. The Rev. John Lestock officiated. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Minn., with Michaelson Funeral Homes of Owatonna in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Cedarview Reflection Room or Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three sons, Edmund Jr. and Jane Draheim of Owatonna, Charles and Peggy Draheim of Mankato, and David Draheim of Forest City; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Rupkalvis of Rochester, Minn., and Leora Quandt of Grand Meadow, Minn.; along with many nieces and nephews.

Julia Ann Beenken, 46

Funeral service for Julia Ann Beenken, 46, of Buffalo Center was held Thursday, Jan. 23, at First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center. She died January 20, 2003, at her home in rural Buffalo Center, surrounded by her family and friends. The Rev. Bill Peake officiated.

Julie is survived by her husband, Dean, and sons Darren and Jared, all of Buffalo Center; her parents, Paul and Shirley Krahling of Ashton; her mother-in-law, Tressie Beenken of Buffalo Center; her brother, Jeff Krahling and his wife, Brenda, of Sibley; her nieces, Becky Krahling of Onawa, Jessica Dagel and her husband, Josh, and son Dawson, and Andrea Krahling; and by her nephew, Joshua Krahling, all of Sibley. Other survivors include her sister-in-law, Joyce Anderson and her husband, Ronald, of Buffalo Center, and nieces Kristen Reese and her husband, Mark, of Nashville, Tenn., Amy Rasch and her husband, Corey, and their daughter, Karissa, of Bancroft; and by many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

Marie Van Hove, 69

Funeral service for Helen Marie Van Hove, 69, of Leland was held Friday, Jan. 24, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Leland. She died January 21, 2003, at Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea, Minn. The Rev. Clarence Baalson officiated. Burial was in Good Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Titonka, with Mittelstaadt Funeral Home in charge of arrangments.

Helen is survived by her husband, Ted, of Leland; her son, Steven Van Hove of Waukee; her daughters, Ruth Ann Rosenwinkel and her husband, Drake, of Madison Lake, Minn.; and Laura Jean Van Hove of Arlington, Va.; two grandchildren, Hannah and Mara Rosenwinkel; one brother, Alfred Stenzel and his wife, Caroline, of Iowa Falls; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Harold Sherwood, 66

Funeral service for Harold Sherwood, 66, of Lake Mills will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan 30, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. He died January 26, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City. The Rev. Kevin Mackey will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main, in Lake Mills, and again one hour before the service at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine, of Lake Mills; five children, David and April Sherwood of Rockwell, Julie Sherwood of Forest City, Harlan Sherwood of Minneapolis, Minn., Paul Sherwood of Joice, and Fern and Bob Zabel of Lake Mills; four grandchildren, Courtney Sherwood, Andrew and Joshua Zabel, and Clancy Sherwood; one sister, Rosemary and her husband, John Spratt of Webster City; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
